Always good to have some ballet scores. I did not know of these particular versions of the Satie works. Thanks very much for posting this disc.
ReplyDeletePreferable to my first version (Entremont/RPO) bought in 1971 -only now have as a Cassette; the Auriacombe 'EMI Studio' Cassette sounds atrocious - also this is more 'earthy' than Dorati/LSO 'Parade' (better typist, too..).
DeleteHad considered adding the 1979 Lanchbery/ROHO Satie 'Monotones' (HMV ESD) -but possibly less-good pressing-quality.
Could try the 1968 OdP/Pretre Poulenc (HMV ASD) - but the OdP/Ozawa 'Firebird' from 1973 has long been on my 'to-do' list as have both ASD + Q4ASD releases -also the 1965 Philips reissue of LSO/Dorati is somewhat spectacular...
Wonderful post!
ReplyDeleteCertainly makes a good case for "Relache".
DeleteHave been pondering a follow-up - the Busted Blog recently mentioned the US Angel (no UK issue) of Pierne (Cydalise/Ramuntcho) which I have - but the score isn't too compelling (J-B Mari seems a hard-driver - ie the 2LP's of Coppelia/Sylvia) so will try some late-70s French EMI and maybe alight on something not-too-decadent.
May end-up doing the 1959/61 Muza/Philips Lutoslawski (1984 LP) elsewhere - or some Syzmanowski (ie EMI VC1/2 with Kulka).
